Giulio Aristide Sartorio served as an officer on the front lines of World War I and created a massive series of works documenting the reality of the Italian war effort. He was wounded and taken prisoner by the Austro-Hungarian forces in 1918, which led to him creating even more poignant sketches of the conflict while in captivity.
