Armand Guillaumin was a key figure in the early Impressionist movement and a close friend of Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne. Unlike many of his contemporaries who came from wealthy backgrounds, Guillaumin worked for the French municipal administration for many years, painting during his spare time until a significant lottery win in 1891 allowed him to devote himself entirely to art.
