Armand Guillaumin was a foundational member of the Impressionist circle, known for his long-lasting friendship with Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissarro. Despite his artistic dedication, he famously worked for the Paris municipal government for years, famously quitting only after winning a significant prize in the City of Paris lottery in 1891, which finally allowed him to focus entirely on his painting.
