Winslow Homer spent his later years in Prout's Neck, Maine, where he became obsessed with the raw power of the Atlantic. He built a studio overlooking the sea, famously watching storms from behind a custom-built plate-glass window to study the movement of the waves. His dedication was so intense that he would often walk along the rocks during severe storms, sketching the turbulent water to capture its fleeting, primal energy.
