Did you know?
Étienne Dinet, who later adopted the name Nasreddine Dinet upon converting to Islam, dedicated much of his career to depicting life in Algeria. Unlike many Orientalist painters who exoticized or fantasized about the East, Dinet immersed himself in Algerian culture, learned Arabic, and captured everyday scenes with a remarkable degree of authenticity and empathy. 'The Dispute' likely portrays a common scene of childhood play, reflecting his intimate understanding of the people and their daily lives, rather than an outsider's romanticized view.
